A grandiose reconstruction is underway at the intersection of Vilnius Liepkalnis, Žirniai Street and Minsk Highway, a transport artery that is crossed by more than 60,000 people daily during the non-quarantine period. of vehicles, is quickly rebuilt into a two-level intersection with a tunnel. Starting May 4, there will be significant changes to traffic in and around this area, lasting until August 9: temporary road connections, temporary roundabouts and roads will help bypass work zones safely.

By renovating existing roads and building new ones, we are constantly improving communication so that Vilnius residents can move more easily and save time. After the reconstruction of the intersection of Liepkalnis streets, Žirniai streets and Minsk highway in a couple of years, faster and safer communication will be ensured, congestion will decrease, and changes in the quality of movement will be immediately felt by about 20,000 Vilnius residents commuting every day from Naujininkai, Rasa And for now, until the end of summer, we will ask everyone for patience and attention,” says Vilnius Mayor Remigijus Šimašius.

During the indicated period, all traffic moving along the streets of Žirnii

, Liepkalnis and the Minsk Highway will be diverted by the newly installed temporary road connections, which will be used to safely bypass the work zone. The new road connections will start from Žirnių Street and continue to the Minsk Highway, where they will be connected by a temporary roundabout. Liepkalnis Street will also be connected to the Minsk Highway via a roundabout with a temporary road. Two new roundabouts will divide traffic in the surrounding neighborhoods of Kalnėnai, Naujininkai and Rasa. In order to ensure the safe movement of pedestrians, temporary sidewalks, pedestrian crossings and bus stops at roundabouts will be installed along the temporary roads during construction work. This way, pedestrians will be able to safely and comfortably cross the Minsk Highway and Liepkalnis Street and use public transport. To avoid disruption to traffic, information panels have been set up that change the direction of transit traffic, directing it towards the A19 and ring road no. 106.

“Currently, viaduct poles are being installed, telecommunications, gas pipeline, electricity, rainwater, water supply and domestic sewage systems are being built, the surface of the widened road and a temporary diversion are being constructed. It was agreed with the contractors that the works will be organized in such a way as to create as little inconvenience as possible for the citizens of Vilnius,” says Virginijus Pauža, head of the infrastructure department of Vilnius Municipality.

The reconstruction is carried out by the supplier groups UAB “Fegda” and UAB “Tilsta”. The cost of the project is approximately 31 million. Euro. Part of the funds for the implementation of the project will be allocated by the municipality of the city of Vilnius, approximately 22 million. will be allocated by the Government.

From next week – changes to traffic and public transport in Liepkalnis, Žirnių g. and Minsk pl. at the crossroads

From 4 May for the streets Liepkalnis, Žirnių and Minsk pl. the reconstruction of the intersection will change 2, 12, 16, 19, 58, 61, 82, 88 routes and timetables of the bus lines, which are already published on the website www.stops.lt.

2 AND 88 shuttle buses do not stop at the Žirniau stop located on Žirniau st. (when buses go in the direction of Vilnius airport), but they will stop at the recently installed Žirniai stop on Liepkalnio st. This new stop is located approximately 270 meters from the old one (in the direction of the station).

12, 19 AND 82 shuttle buses will bypass the intersection and stop for the convenience of passengers at additional stops Žirniai near the shopping center located here (in both directions). Furthermore, buses of the routes mentioned stop at the usual Žirniai stop on Liepkalnio Street. (In the direction of the station).

16, 58 and 61 Buses heading towards Minsk pl. they stop at the Žirniai stop (in the direction of Nemėžis), but stop at the equipped Žirniai stops (in both directions) about 310 m in the direction of Nemėžis. The buses will also stop for passengers at the usual Žirniai stop on Liepkalnio Street. (In the direction of the station).

During the reconstruction of the intersection and its approaches, a total of 5 public transport stops will be installed.

  • Until changes in traffic organization, Minsk pl. there will be two new Žirniai stops in both directions – towards the Station and towards Nemėžys. They will stop 16, 58, 61 Shuttle Buses.
  • Žirniau and Liepkalnis Street. at the crossroads detour in both directions near the building located on Liepkalnio st. 112A., two more Žirniai stops will be installed. They will stop 12, 19, 82 Shuttle Buses.
  • The Žirniai stop, located on Liepkalnis Street, in the direction of Rudamina and Skaidiškii, will be abolished. Passengers will be able to travel by public transport from the stops located on the ring road.
  • From Žirniai st. at Liepkalnio st. the Žirniai stop will be moved in the direction of Vilnius Airport. It will stop there, as usual 2, 88 Shuttle Buses.
  • On Žirnių st., Minsko pl. and Liepkalnio st. Both Tyzenhauzai stops and one Žirniai stop on Liepkalnio Street had already been moved for the reconstruction work on the intersection. towards the station. These stops will not be moved due to traffic organization at the intersection.
