▷ Mercedes-Benz C-Class became the Lithuanian car of the year

The 25th anniversary election of the “Lithuanian Car of the Year” ended with a bang. After distributing the points, the 10 members of the commission decided which model will be able to boast the honor for next year. And many people were sincerely surprised by the results of the awards evening.

The election of “Lithuanian Car of the Year” has been organized by the Auto Club of Lithuanian Journalists since its inception. Every autumn, at the traditional meeting, a new commission of professional journalists and automotive experts is elected, which has the task of evaluating within two months all the latest models delegated to the elections, which debuted on the Lithuanian automotive market during the year. In the end, contenders for different nominations are chosen, and seven car models, selected from all applicants, traditionally apply for the title of “Lithuanian Car of the Year”.

Mercedes-Benz C-Class became the Lithuanian car of the year

It is not easy to decide which these seven will be: all ten members of the commission must personally choose the seven best models, after this procedure a list is drawn up which includes the most cited models among the commission’s choices.

This year, the following models won the title of “Car of the Year 2022”: Audi e-tron GT, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Hyundai IONIQ 5, Hyundai Tucson, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Nissan Qashqai, Skoda Enyaq iV.

To choose the best car of the year, the ten members of the commission had to assign 25 points to the seven cars mentioned: a maximum of 10 points can be assigned to a car. And it is this type of voting that determines which car will win and achieve a respectable victory. However, the voting for the 25th “Lithuanian Car of the Year” was tense until the last moment, because the first three models that claimed the title of the best remained with a very small point difference.

After a tough battle, it became clear that the “Lithuanian Car of the Year 2022” will be called the Mercedes-Benz C-Class model.

Here’s what the final voting results looked like:

Other winners of the competition that has been organized for 25 years also appeared at the festive awards ceremony.

The following three models won the title of “Electric Car of the Year”: Hyundai IONIQ 5, Mercedes EQA, Škoda Enyaq iV. After a hard struggle, it became clear that the “Electric Car of the Year 2022” can be called the “Hyundai IONIQ 5” model.

The “Nation’s Car of the Year” has traditionally been chosen by the readers of the 15min portal. The most heated battle took place between the Audi e-tron GT, Škoda Enyaq iV and Volkswagen ID.4 models. However, the Audi e-tron GT received the majority of votes.

Readers of the portal “What’s happening in Kaunas” also had the opportunity to choose a city car from Kaunas. After a fierce battle, it was discovered to be the Peugeot 508 PSE model.

The following three models competed for the title of “Business Class Car of the Year”: Aston Martin DBX, Audi e-tron GT, Jaguar F-Pace SVR. Tests and feedback from company representatives established that the Audi e-tron GT electric car was recognized as the most suitable model for companies.

Three models claimed the title of “City SUV of the Year”: Hyundai Tucson, Nissan Qashqai, Toyota Yaris Cross. The title of winner went to the Nissan Qashqai model, which shaped the urban SUV segment many years ago.

One of the following three models was nominated to become “BTA Family Car of the Year”: Hyundai Santa Fe, Škoda Enyaq iV, Volkswagen Arteon Shooting Brake. Families who tested the cars in three Lithuanian cities decided that the seven-seater Hyundai Santa Fe SUV deserves the title.

The “safest brake” could be one of the following three models: Audi e-tron GT, Jaguar F-Pace SVR, Volkswagen ID.4. After tests on braking efficiency conducted by scientists from TECH University in Vilnius, it became clear that the title went to the Audi e-tron GT model.

The following three technologies claimed the title of “Innovation of the Year”: Hyundai IONIQ 5 V2L technology, Hyundai Tucson blind spot cameras, Seres 3 integrated video recorder. The title was won by Hyundai IONIQ 5, whose V2L technology allows you to charge not only an electric device, but also another electric car from the battery of an electric car.

The following models could win the title of “Multimedia of the Year”: “Audi e-tron GT”, “Hyundai IONIQ 5”, “Mercedes-Benz C-Class”. Tests have shown that the title will be appreciated by representatives of Mercedes-Benz, whose multimedia content in the C-Class model won a major award.

The following models could become the “Design of the Year” car: Audi e-tron GT, Hyundai IONIQ 5, Volkswagen Arteon Shooting Brake. It was decided that the “Design of the Year 2022” award is worthy of the Hyundai IONIQ 5 model, which attracts the attention of many with its appearance.

One of the following three cars claimed to be the “sportiest model of the year”: Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio, Audi E-tron GT, Porsche Macan S. The Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio model, which surprised many with its sportiness, won the title.

Traditionally, during the election of the “Lithuanian Car of the Year”, the athlete who made the name of Lithuania famous abroad is also honored. This year the title of “Beef of the Year” was awarded to the following three athletes: Benediktas Čirba, Jonas Karklys, Benediktas Vanagas. Benediktas Čirba, a lateral skater who has won the world title several times, has become the “rider of the year 2022”.
