Motorcycle driving courses. Tips and practice. Video

When you hear the word “motorcycle”, the first thought is wind, speed, freedom, which is why more and more enthusiasts are choosing this iron horse bicycle. However, to drive safely in the wind you must first develop correct driving skills and obtain a category A1, A2, A driving license. Edvardas Vanagas, driving instructor at UAB “ARV-Auto”, invites you to get to know first hand what you need to know before you start learning

While the weather outside remains unpredictable, temperatures will continue to drop until spring arrives. As spring approaches, more and more people looking to make the most of their free time are starting to look for bicycles. New bicycles are typically cheaper in winter due to seasonal promotions. However, buying a used bicycle is also common. The reason is obvious: bicycles sold on various classifieds websites and social media are extremely cheap and appear to be in good condition, making them very tempting. Unfortunately, much important information is often omitted, leaving buyers confused.

Experienced sellers and buyers alike avoid using such wording, which is also frequently seen in bicycle advertisements. While selling a near-new bicycle for a price far below its actual value is tempting, sellers often obscure the real reason for the sale, or they simply don’t want to know.

– When is the best time to start learning to ride a motorcycle?

– The best time to start learning to ride a motorcycle is when I get the idea to sit on a motorcycle and try to ride it. So that’s when it’s worth starting to drive.

– Yes, but if it’s winter then it won’t work?

– You won’t be able to sit in the vehicle, but you can start preparing theoretically, pass the theory exam, prepare yourself morally and maybe even buy some equipment.

– The mandatory practical driving course for the motorcycle category lasts 10 months. hours, tell me, is that course enough for everyone or do I need additional lessons?

– It depends on a person’s skills and abilities whether five runs will be enough. In most cases, if a person has previous experience, it is enough for him. If you are sitting for the first time, you may need to practice more often.

– Is it true that “A” category motorcycles are very large, so it might be physically difficult for a small, short person to control a large motorcycle?

– At first glance, when you see a bigger vehicle, move it and push it, it will look scary. There are people who want to try before they know how things will look here, but the correct posture and driving the vehicle itself have no effect. Gradually, skills improve and all fears disappear. And the little girl, when she needs to push herself into a parking lot, does it in the best way possible. Also, the men on the first trip wonder how he does it.

– So it is not necessary to attend any particular training in the gym, for example, which month before to be able to push the bike?

– You don’t need a motorbike, but you can do it for your pleasure.

– If the student has passed the theory exam and prepared the theory, does he have to prepare in any particular way for the practical lessons?

– You should not prepare specially, but the driving school will ask you to have gloves and helmet during the pandemic. The school will take care of all other measures.

– If the student has not ridden the motorcycle, should he at least familiarize himself with the controls before coming to the driving school, or will he learn everything when he comes to the driving school?

– He will learn everything at the driving school, he will be introduced to the questions that will be asked during the exam, but very often it is the students themselves who are interested, who want to drive, to learn about the same vehicle, perhaps live or by other means

– Upon arrival at school, the first lesson begins on the driving range. What is the importance of teaching in the field of elements if the student has the skills? Maybe he can go to the street first? Do we still need to start again from the field?

– In all cases, we ask the student to go to the location first. Let’s test our skills in it. The first round will always take place on the training ground, as there is a lot of practice. You should familiarize yourself with all the exercises during that run. Several driving elements are performed at minimum speed. For example, braking while driving at least 50 km/h. speed and obstacle avoidance.

– How can an examiner or driving instructor see how fast a motorcyclist is going?

– When registering for the practical test you have the freedom to choose which vehicle to use (yours or that of the “Register”). If you choose “Regitras”, you rent a vehicle from “Regitras” and drive. If you choose your own vehicle, then you have two choices: either provide your vehicle directly, or rent it from a driving school with which you will carry out the maneuvers.

– And now let’s talk about braking, because it is much more important not only to accelerate the motorcycle, but also to be able to stop it safely. What should anyone getting on a motorcycle for the first time or for the first time know?

– Well, usually during the theory, the student learns to brake a motorbike, that there are two brakes, they will need to control both, but it will be necessary to distinguish which one is used more forcefully and which one more gently. The front wheel brake will be operated manually, while the rear wheel brake will be operated with the foot.

– How important is foot pressure during braking?

– While driving, since you must not hold on to the steering wheel in any way, nor move away from it, nor push, nor squeeze your hands tightly, the main grip will be with your feet. Thanks to the tank we will also be able to control the vehicle itself. A total of three body positions that touch the motorcycle while riding: the feet, with which we control the legs and can tilt the motorcycle in the right direction while riding, the knees, the inside of the knee, which holds during braking or acceleration and can push the tank to one side or the other during a turn, to aid control. Well, we won’t be able to show it on this bike. These are the elbows, pressing the tank with your hands can help you negotiate a bend (for example on sports motorcycles).

-Some riders say that the front brake is only used for sport riding. Is it true or not? Is it necessary to use both brakes on the road?

– For effective braking we will use both brakes. But during braking, when all the power and all the weight goes to the front wheel, the main brake will be our front wheel.

– What are the most common braking errors on motorbikes?

– When the driver panics after noticing an obstacle, he suddenly presses the brake, blocking it. If the rear wheel locks, skidding begins. Another case where fear wins and the driver suddenly hits the front brake. In this case, it can tip the front wheel. Modern motorcycles are equipped with an ABS system that helps prevent this.

– Concentration of the gaze is probably also important when braking. The important thing is not to focus on the obstacle, but to try to get around it, right?

– This is the main thing in motorcycle management. We cannot look at a specific point, but always look for a way out. When we start looking for opportunities, we fall into them. It is the desire not to look at danger, but to try to find where we can walk around safely

– And I also heard that there are two types of learning: one is trying to avoid an obstacle, and the other is knowing how to fall correctly. How do you teach?

– We’re trying to keep them from tipping over. Or foresee the possibilities, what danger awaits us. We therefore advise you not to take any protective measures, but simply to drive safely. We wish you safe travels. And if you dream of riding a motorcycle, perhaps this year is the ideal time to make it come true.
