According to data from the state company “Regitra”, 32,574 new drivers received their driving license in 2014. The passing rate for the driving test on the first attempt was 43%. The absolute majority of people who obtained driving licenses were residents under the age of 21, the oldest drivers were 73 and 79 years old. women – such statistics are shared by representatives of the DORKANAS driving school and share advice that everyone who intends to become a driver should know.
What do representatives of “Regitra” say about driving tests?

In the first days of April this year “Regitra” organized open days. There was a lot of interest and potential drivers were curious and ready to ask a range of questions. Participants were very interested in the assessment criteria of the practical exam – how the examiner evaluates various situations. S. Staniulionis, a specialist from the VĮ “Regitra” department in Vilnius, who communicated with the group, reassured everyone that everything is going according to the requirements: the exam is filmed by three cameras with audio, and computers also record every pedal press of the examiner, so if complaints arise, everything can be reviewed consistently, but such conflict situations occur very rarely.
Some emphasize that examiners aren’t specifically looking for mistakes. S. Staniulionis points out that the most common mistakes include stalling the engine, not adjusting the rearview mirrors, and driving onto the curb, explicitly stating that stress is the biggest enemy of the test. The article tells the story of a girl who was extremely nervous during her test, unable to concentrate, and ultimately failed. However, on open driving day, she performed the same task flawlessly. Most importantly, thorough pre-test preparation is crucial to minimizing the impact of stress on driving performance.
What do students fear most?
After talking with future drivers who are currently attending the courses of the driving school “Dorkanos”, it becomes clear that they have heard many myths and “truths” from their friends and relatives, but these myths make the exam a scary thing. The biggest concern is which examiner will come, whether it will be possible to chat with him at least a few minutes to ease the tension, whether they will not be deliberately deceived, in other words, whether they will fall “on the axe”.
However, the aforementioned S. Staniulionis urges to dispel such thoughts, stating that due to stress, motorists consider many things misleading, and gave as an example the situation in which the direction of travel is indicated, the direction of the city is also indicated, for example, a left turn in the direction of Utena. This simply provides additional information and does not mean that the examinee needs to know which direction Utena is facing.
What do driving instructors recommend?
The instructors at the Dorkan driving school are happy to share their advice: First of all, they encourage you to take your time and prepare adequately for the test. The number of hours allocated to learning to drive at school is not enough for everyone. Therefore, even after passing the school driving test, it is worth paying attention to the instructor’s advice on which exercises or driving maneuvers should still be improved.
“Dorkano” instructors note that after preparing for the theory exam on their own, more difficulties arise on the road, because specific situations are not explained to the student, many “passed” tests do not even know what one or another road sign means, and therefore the time spent on driving becomes less efficient. It is also very important to simply improve your driving skills rather than learning to drive a certain model of car.
What is good to know?
Do not forget that you have the opportunity to ask the examiner any questions before the start of the exam, and also, after listening to him, you have the right to test the vehicle (get off the ground, change gear). If you fail the exam the first time, don’t blindly try to register for the next time as soon as possible. Analyze the mistakes made better, improve. If necessary, one should not forget about the possibility of learning to drive with a familiar instructor. You can also check the evaluation criteria for the exam in advance (you can find them on the “Registra” website, in the practical tests section).
We hope that the information has been useful to you and if you are still hesitating about when and how to start learning to drive, we kindly invite you to enroll in the Dorkan driving school. During the learning period, you will not only prepare for the driving test, but also gain driving skills and experience, which will help you feel safe and confident on the road.
