In the near future all vehicles arriving for technical inspection will be photographed.
This would provide greater transparency and publicity to roadworthiness tests and reduce contentious situations between drivers and inspectors.

Currently, special video recording equipment is installed in technical inspection stations.
It is designed to take photos of the vehicle’s exterior, identification number and defects found.

These video recording devices will complement the anti-corruption project launched in the country’s technical inspection centers since July.

“Even though bribes offered directly to the inspector were not registered, it is still popular in districts to leave a banknote in cars coming for a technical inspection. Conflicts are often avoided if the inspector explains the legal responsibility for the bribe,” says Antanas Dadurka, president of the board of directors of the Transeksta Association of Lithuanian technical inspection companies.
– A decreasing trend of so-called “resellers” has been observed., which help to pass the technical control for an illegal fare. The facts show that the anti-corruption program is starting to work more efficiently: there are more appeals and more prepared vehicles arriving for technical inspection.”
There are 68 technical inspection stations in the country. 41 of them require online pre-registration.
The technical inspection can be carried out at any technical inspection center in the country, regardless of the place of registration of the driver or vehicle.

“We advise drivers to use the possibility of pre-registration and plan their time more rationally. A part of drivers habitually go to large stations, where queues sometimes form. Although in the same cities there are stations where you can book online, pass the technical control on the same day and not wait in queues,” recalls Gintautas Šlėderis, director of the “Transeksta” association.
– For example, in Vilnius, we recommend going to the new Avižieniai station and avoiding the traffic jam at Lentvaris Street station. In Kaunas you should choose the station on the Raudondvaris highway and not wait in Aleksote, but in Panevėžys go to Basanavičius street”.

Existing technical inspection stations have recently been opened and modernized, and a flexible pre-registration and online registration system is being developed.

On the updated website of the association of technical inspection companies www.vta.lt. it is possible to pre-register for a technical check online or with a special app adapted for smartphones.
Every day around 900 drivers use this rapidly popular module.

Drivers can order a notification about the expiration of the technical inspection on the portal. Such a notification is sent in advance via SMS, after the driver has ordered this notification method on the portal.
The construction of new technical control centers and the modernization of existing ones in Nemenčinė, Šalčininkai, Kuršėnai, Kretinga and Skuoda are planned for next year.
